Three Tips For Nurturing Joy and Happiness
October 20, 2017The Lord is our Shepherd and we will not be in need or want for anything (Psalm 23:1-6). This is such a comforting scripture in a world of turmoil where people are now filled with fear, anxiety, and stress. This scripture brings comfort in times of distress that can fill our heart and soul. David said that the Lord is his Shepherd and we can say the same thing too.
We can learn a lot from (Psalm 23:1-6):
God knows me (Psalm 23:1)
A good shepherd knows each and every sheep. So too God knows each and every one of his children. God knows you intimately. Scripture says that before you were formed in your mother’s womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:5 NIV). God knowing us also speaks about our relationship with Him as his covenant children. God does not only know us but he cares and love us. The Bible says that God so loves the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but will have eternal life (John 3:16).
God provides for me (Psalm 23:1-3a)
As our Shepard, God naturally knows the needs of each and every one of his sheep (Believers). God is aware of all our needs even before we ask him (Matthew 6: 8). He cares about what happens to us and His care is never seasonal but constant and abundant. Shepherds don’t allow sheep to drink from running water (e.g. rivers) because of sheep while bending to drink water might also fall into it. Therefore, Shepherds draw water from wells and give their sheep to drink. We don’t have to worry about our needs because just like the Shepherd is aware of the needs of his flock and leads them to green pastures and still waters, God is also aware of our needs, as well as how and when to meet them.
God restores me (Psalm 23:3a)
Like sheep, we can be like lambs and incapable of defending ourselves against Satan’s schemes, especially because of the fallen nature that dominates human behavior (Psalm 51:5) that causes us to fall into sin and later we wish we did not do what we did. At such times it is important that we repent and allow the Lord to restore us. Don’t leave room for feelings of guilt, like Peter repent before the Lord and He will restore you like Peter (Luke 22:61-62).
